According to his great-great-grandson, Ustaz Mohammed Noor Taib (founder and then principal of Madrasah Wak Tanjong Al-Islamiah), Wak Tanjong had initially built a wooden mosque on the land. The current Masjid Wak Tanjong, with a blend of Anglo-Indian bungalow architecture and Malay kampong typology, was believed to be built in 1933. In 1972, the mosque was expanded and later underwent a series of upgrading works in the late 1970s, 1990s, and the latest in 2018, with support from the Mosque Building and Mendaki Fund (MBMF)—a community Wakaf contributed by all Muslim employees in Singapore. Thanks to this community contribution, the mosque was given a breath of new life with a fresh coat of paint and is now family-, disabled- and elderly-friendly with lift, and ramp access. "Legasi Kesyukuran" (Legacy of Gratefulness) is an ongoing campaign that focuses on gratitude for the mosque’s 150-year legacy of compassion, service, and unity. The name emphasizes the shared responsibility to carry forward the mosque’s mission, with gratitude at the heart of this effort.
Campaign initiatives include: **Historical research of Wak Tanjong & his legacy (1800-1891)** **150th Launch** **@Suntec on 13 Dec 2024 by Minister Masagos** **New initiatives launch: Free Food Forward, SolatBt, etc** The Nur Kesyukuran theme draws inspiration from the concept of light, symbolizing how the mosque has served as a guiding force in the community’s lives for 150 years. This light, or Nur, represents the harmony of the hands, head, and heart working together. It embodies the mosque’s legacy of action (hands), wisdom (head), and compassion (heart), illuminating the spiritual and emotional journey of the faithful and standing as a central pillar of guidance. The logo for the Legasi Kesyukuran campaigned is called Nur Kesyukuran as it draws inspiration from the concept of light, symbolizing how the mosque has served as a guiding force in the community’s lives for 150 years.
